gs parliament 2The six-member committee appointed to restructure the main opposition United National Party  under the Chairmanship of parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera has received valuable consultations and it is now ready to make productive recommendations to the party working committee, and all pro UNP institutions including Provincial Councils, party organizers, lawyers associations and media organizations have responded to the committee's call for proposals to reform the party. All views are being taken into consideration, the United National Party said.

Accordingly, the number of members of the UNP working committee is proposed to be reduced to 86 from the over 90 heads earlier. Of them 66 are to be appointed by party bodies while the party leader can appoint 20 of them. Currently, all the working committee members are appointed by the party leader. The final proposals will be ready for ratification by August when the UNP convention is scheduled to be held, the UNP head quarters reveled.
