FULL TEXT OF LETTER AS FOLLOWS:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your message. I am copying to you below another message, which I have just sent to one of your colleagues in Sri Lanka:

“The Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians is the body within the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is entrusted with the task of examining communications concerning alleged human rights violations of members of parliament.

The Committee usually starts examining the cases submitted to it in the framework of a confidential procedure whereby decisions adopted by the Committee are only forwarded to the sources of information, the parliamentary and any other competent authorities.

The Committee has indeed received a communication concerning Mr. Sarath Fonseka and is at present examining this case under its confidential procedure, which means that it has not rejected the case.

The decision it adopted on the occasion of the session it held last week will be forwarded in a few days to the authorities and the sources of information.”

I hope this answers your question.

Best regards

Ingeborg Schwarz
