Ravi questions govt. about constraints placed on the Mayor

Ravi_in_ParliamnetUnited National Party Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake questioned the government about the constraints that have been placed on the Mayor of the Colombo Municipal Council from carrying out his duties.Deputy Minister for Local Government and Provincial Councils, Indika Bandaranayake answered the questions.
MP Ravi Karunanayake:"There is still a special commissioner at the CMC. I would like to ask this Parliament as to why measures are not taken to handover powers to Muzammil who emerged victorious.’’

Deputy Minister Indika Bandaranayake: ’’Speaker, we have not received information regarding this. If  this MP provides us with the required information, we will act on it.’’’’

MP Ravi Karunanayake: ’’Muzammil took oaths before our leader yesterday. When we attempted to go inside the CMC, they said that we still don’t have permission. They told us that there is a problem since there is still a special commissioner.’’

Deputy Minister Indika Bandaranayake:’’We respect the peoples’ mandate. As the UNP has only secured victory of one local government body, we will take steps to hand over power to the UNP legally. That is not a problem.’’
